Another New Cam at Cornell!

The newest bird cam at Cornell is focused on a newborn Albatross in Hawaii.

Click here to view http://cams.allaboutbirds.org/channel/41/Laysan_Albatross/
The parents are Kaluahine and Kululakane and the baby is Koloakalua. The nest is on the island of Kauai.

Wow, a new cam! I'm gonna check it out right now! I think I'll write about it in the next Daily Tweeter. Also, you can pick any bird for the newspaper Ms. Seitz! I went on Arkive.org and looked at endangered birds, and the website is like super helpful! It even shows birds status on the IUCN Red List. The Pochard is critically endangered, so is the Kakapo. I might do one of those two birds. But, I'm still looking for more birds. Also, me and Ms. Friedman saw the Kestrel during dismissal, on the McDonald Avenue Side of the school, which is where we normally dismiss. Plus, I have a question. I saw a flock of birds that were black, with a few colorful lines on it, like greenish blue. It kinda looked like a Common Starling, except it was smaller. Could it be a Common Starling and are they native to Brooklyn? Plus, I decided to do Birds of Paradise for a feature article we are doing in class. I might visit the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's website, to get quotes from their birds of paradise project. I also might ask you and Ms. Friedman some questions, so you two know a lot! Well, bye, see you on Friday! Can't wait to see the albatross cam!! :)

Hi, Ms. Seitz, again! I just wrote a minute ago, but thanks for writing about the albatross on your blog! I'm watching the cam, and watching the beautiful parent sitting in her nest! This is so cool! I knew that I would be able to watch them, because you said there was a newborn, so I knew it would be in the nest! :) But, now I only see the parent (I dont know which one) but i dont see the newborn... :)But thanks!! :)

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Its me, again! :) I couldnt help but write again, because the other parent just visited the nest, and they were feeding the adorable newborn. Turns out, the mother was sitting on the baby which was why I couldnt see it. The baby is SOO adorable!!!! I'm just in love with this cam! :)

Thier names confusing Ms. Seitz. how do people remeber them.

Ms. Seitz said...

Hi Anonymous: Who are you? And people remember the names because they always pay a lot of attention to the birds, so....remember their names.

Tasifya: Glad you like the albatross cam. I love these cams too. They allow us to gently spy on nature. And the birds you saw in a flow probably are Starlings. They hang out in flocks and have some greenish blue coloration. Was their a slight yellowish outline on their beaks? And they are not native to Brooklyn. They were brought here a long time ago from Europe I believe and really adapted to life here so their numbers skyrocketed!

Sanjida I Afrose said...

So adorable!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz! I went on the albatross cam today, and while Kaluakane was preening his feathers, a rooster just showed up!! HILARIOUS! :) Somebody even took a picture of it! It looks like Mr. Rooster wanted to photobomb Kaluakane's snapshot. :) Plus, I did research and found out that Shakespeare brought Starlings from Europe, for his plays. They were mentioned in one of his plays, Henry IV. Well, see you on Friday! I'm gonna e-mail you the rooster picture! :)

Ms. Seitz said...

You are amazing Tasfiya. Actually Shakespeare himself didn't bring the starlings, but rather I believe English colonists imported various birds that were MENTIONED in Shakespeare's plays. But good researching on your part. And the rooster encounter sounds hilarious!!!!!!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Thanks, Ms. Seitz! I was just working on the Daily Tweeter, and I made some changes to it. I'll tell you about them on Friday. Plus, I think I'm going to do the Marvellous Spatuletail for my endangered species report. I'm also going to do the first type of poster, where we do it on a poster board, and make a teaching poster about our animal. :)
Also, if you wanna see the rooster pic, I'm gonna e-mail it soon! :)

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Blue bird of paradise is what I am doing for the research report. For my feature article I am doing Indigo Bunting.

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz! I just emailed you the rooster pic, but I wanted to tell you something. Do you know about Wisdom? When I went to the albatross cam questions, it said the longest living albatross was a female named Wisdom... I just LOVE Wisdom! Well, I was surprised to see her on the Yahoo News home page! She had another chick! That made her worthy enough to be on Yahoo News! I love it when birds get the spotlight! :) Wisdom is 63 years old, which is REALLY LONG for an albatross! She's the oldest one! They call her the ancient albatross...... I emailed you the rooster pic, and a picture of Wisdom, and a picture of a non breeding albatross coming up to Kaluahine while she was in the nest, but she clacked her beak, to tell him to go away. The bird was banded, but unknown.... TOTALLY NOT KALUAKANE.. :)

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Tasfiya cool!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Loving the albatrosses right now. Just finished watching the family reunion with Kaluakane returning, while Kaluahine departs, and leaves her husband to sit on Kaloakulua. I also got to see the cam lose focus on the albatrosses for a while and zoom in on a Cattle Egret walking in the long green grass. Plus, I kinda got sick of the snow storms every week, so I felt envious, watching the sun's rays in Hawaii. I wanna go there right now... :)

Hasib Patwary said...

ms.seitz are these albatross only found in Hawaii or are they found in other places? And how does cornell get all of these cams of birds.

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Soon cold I wanna be in Hawaii now! Oh I changed my feature article from indigo bunting to Audubon society.

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz! Just went on Yahoo News to find something about a great white shark breaching the ocean, which a photographer got pics of, but it was a rare image because the photographer soon realized that in one of his pictures, it showed the Great White's tooth flying out, after the shark played a surprise attack on a seal!!!!!!! It was SOOOOOOO cool!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Aww, both Kaluahine and Kaluakane left the nest, so Kaloakulua is all on his own... It seems so weird to see the chick alone. He seems so brave to go through a whole night, alone, and now, he's awake but all alone, nobody to "talk" to... :)He's so adorable, preening his feathers. Plus, I didn't go to school today. Such a big snow day! I can't believe Chancellor Farina announced school was open? I live far away and take a car, so since there was too much snow, my mom didn't want to go because we were afraid since the roads were REALLY slippery. Today, there was a fire in the Bronx and a 36 year old woman (pregnant) died... :( De Blasio is getting a lot of angry complaints... I hope I can come to school tomorrow for science! :)

Sarah Awan said...

Hi Ms.Seitz!Sorry I did not visit this blog.I think u deserve a sorry from me.Anyways, have u heard?Central Park is about to ban its horse carriages! How terrible! At least that is what I think. What do u think?I am going to write a feature article about it.The new mayor (Mr. De Blasio) said that instead of horse carriages we should have rides on electric cars.Seriously!?And I thought mayors were smart. Why would u use an electric car when we already have so many air polluting machines on the road!If I was a mayor that will not even be the last thing on my list! The Albatross bird is unique. The baby bird is awfully cute!I feel like grabbing it and squeezing it so badly! The picture of the baby bird is on the whole laptop screen and sometimes I become scared that my mom will catch me hugging the computer. She might think of me as crazy.I do not have much experience with birds but I like birds. The only experience that I have with birds is with Mudd.He is back now.I am happy.I did not see him when there was a snowfall.Poor thing.Out in the cold suffering.I know they have feathers to protect themselves but if u r looking out the window, it looks like they are suffering.Reply soon!I m excited for a reply!Plus on channel thirteen, they were talking about how Cornell University and other universities were using this giant printer to print out materials not pages materials! How awesome! There is a surprise for u when we get back to school!Stay tuned!Bye!!!See ya!!!:)......:)!!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms Seitz! I write a lot, but today I felt SOOO envious of Ms. Friedman! She's going to Florida over mid winter break, and said she would show me pics of birds that she would take there. So I searched up birds in Florida when I got home, and guess what? The list included the CEDAR WAXWING, and that it is common in Florida in the winter! I wanna swap places with her right now so I could see the Cedar Waxwing!! I hope she is able to see them and take pictures to show! :) Also, when I saw Sarah's comment I got a little confused, because since Mayor De Blasio is banning horse carriages but replacing them with electric cars, how does it pollute the environment, Ms. Seitz? Since its electric, it won't pollute the environment right? That's just what I think, but I could be wrong... Anyways, I'm starting to look around my neighborhood for birds. Plus, I think the cat in my yard, Bone is starting to like me, because it stares at me, and when it doesn't see me, he leaves the yard. Anyways, I agree with Sarah, because she feels bad for Mudd, and I feel bad for Bone, especially during the cold snowstorm... :) Well, anyways, I'll just wait for your email! :)

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Uh, I can't find anything on the web about how many babies a blue bird of paradise can have!! Can anyone answer me?!?!:-\

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Sanjida, they have 2-3 eggs. This depends on size, but the Blue Bird of Paradise is known as one of the smaller species, and the smaller ones lay 2-3 eggs. Glad I could help.

Ms. Seitz said...

Hi everyone: Sorry I haven't visited the blog and answered or commented on all your great questions and thoughts. It's so inspiring to see how interested you all have gotten in so many things.
Hasib: There are many different species of albatrosses. This particular species lives in Hawaii. Do a search of "albatross species" to see how many there are and where they live. Report back to us, okay?
Tasifya: Thanks for helping Sanjida out with the research. It's great that you can assist each other.
Sarah: I believe the Mayor wants to get rid of horse-drawn carriages because it's really not good for these animals to trot along near cars and trucks and all. There's always been talk that these animals are also not treated well. It has been a tradition in NYC for a long time; I remember going for a ride with a friend for her birthday. But it's probably not so great for the horse. As far as electric cars, well, it does take energy to produce electricity, but electric cars are far less damaging to the environment than gasoline-powered cars. I love how both Sarah and Tasfiya have become so attached to Mudd and Bone. You should take a picture of them so I can see them.
Oh, Hasib, in reference to the cams...organizations and individual just volunteer to set up the cameras and then they are "streamed" through the Cornell site. Cornell hosts one of the cams, but the others are usually private individuals or organizations.

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Thanks I really appreciate it, Tasfiya! Just one more question, what season does the blue bird of paradise lay eggs? P.S Ms.Seitz are you available in the break? Thanks again!

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Who's Bone?!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz. Are you getting my e-mails? Just wondering. I read the article you gave me about Eastern Bluebirds, called "True Blue." It really interested me, and inspired me to try and help the Bluebirds. It said that they're not so common anymore, because starlings and house sparrows take their nesting places, and then, they don't have a place to nest. The article said we can help Eastern Bluebirds by making nest boxes. How do you make that? Can we try to make one in the school garden? Anyways, I've been watching the albatross cams while doing homework, and just watched the mom feed Kaloakulua regurgitated stomach oil... Yesterday, on the cam, a non breeding albatross came up to the dad, and was trying to preen his feathers or something, and the dad kept pushing its beak away, like it was telling it, "Go away! I'm married!" :) But, the non breeder wouldn't stop, and then the dad got annoyed, and he pushed his beak toward the non breeder, and the non breeder got startled, and went back. That's when it started leaving the dad alone. :) I was also pretty startled myself. Plus, when I read your comment, I kinda frowned. I never knew that the horses in Central Park weren't treated well... Do they ever get hurt, or do the owners treat them cruelly? I hope not, cause that would be sad. Also, next time I see Bone, I'll try to take a picture of him. Also, I might be getting a bird plush toy, a Cardinal. Well, bye! See you after the break!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Sorry, but their breeding SEASON is unknown, Sanjida. But, in the section where we write about caring for the young, you can write that the mating system is polygamous, meaning that the male Blue Bird of Paradise mates with several females, and that the females ALONE take care of the babies, and builds the nest. So, the male does nothing, but the female however, does all the work. Sorry I couldn't find the breeding season, but hope the other information helps.

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Tasfiya that's really kind of you! I hope to use all the information you gave me.

Sanjida I Afrose said...

WHO IS BONE???!!!!!:O

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Tasfiya, you named the cat you and I saw at your house Bone?!

Sarah Awan said...

Hi Ms.Seitz! I guess the electric cars do not make damage Tasfiya. And yes Tasfiya did call that cat bone,Sanjida. One question (or more). Are we suppose to find all the info for the animal we chose Ms.Seitz?I still have that surprise for you Ms.Seitz.What is your favorite color(s) Ms.Seitz?Do u like gold or silver better?Bye!:)

I just put a picture of an American Kestrel for the wallpaper on my tablet, and I'm having so much fun making my own bird stickers! I'm sticking them to my UNC journal! :) Maybe I can show you how to make them one day, Ms. Seitz (if you want to). :) So far I have a Cardinal and Chickadee sticker. I also made a clip art cartoonish owl sticker! They're really cool! :)

Sanjida I Afrose said...

How do you make stickers?! What are you going to put on the blog Ms.Seitz?

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Did you get a gift for Ms.Seitz?

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Ms.Seitz, yesterday I went to Cosco and there was a bird there it just flew in! It had grey and white and black feathers mixed in it. My mom and dad said it probably was a Pigeon.plus I took a video and some pictures it was a little high up I'll try to send you a picture from my tablet ... when I figure out how to send a picture to you.

Tasfiya Kashem said...

After reading Sanjida's comment, I got so interested and starting searching up some birds. Sanjida, what was the bird's size? Was it a small bird or medium sized bird? In which part did it have the black and white and gray feathers, the head, the belly, the tail, or chest? Did it have any other colors on it? Please try to answer all these questions, cause I am so excited to find out what bird it is! When I find a match, I'll write it down, and you can search it up to compare the picture to your picture. And, I've noticed the wrong time for a long time now. Ms. Seitz, why is the time wrong? Plus, you can download the picture from your tablet onto the computer using a USB cord (which is your charger). Then, you have to go to Ms. Seitz email, and attach it or copy paste it when you send her the email! Hope this helped!

P.S. Ms. Seitz, when you get the picture and video from Sanjida, can you write about it on the blog? Cause, I'm super curious to find out what bird it is! Then, I can compared my results to Sanjida's picture! Thanks! Hope you are having a nice break! And thanks for the museum offer! Wish I could come, but I have a lot of work to get done around here.. :)

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Also, in the summer, I was sitting on my roof, (it was relaxing there) and I spotted a nestbon top of my garage! I didn't really care then, because I wasn't interested in birds, but now I am! Turned out, my brother's handball landed in there!! I hope it didn't do anything to the birds or the nest. Anyway, since today the weather is amazing, and its really warm out, I've grabbed my binoculars and went out in my backyard to look for nests in trees! It's perfect today. I didn't find anything yet, but I'll tell you if I do! :)
Plus, I'm cutting more bird pictures from my old magazines, and making stickers! Good thing I saved the magazines! They sure did come in use! :) Well, I'm of to find more nests now! :)

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Tasifya, I will try my very beat to answer your questions. The size I guess medium. It had blackish greyish feathers on its collar. Mostly it was white. I can't tell you about the back view because it was high up and only the frontal view was seen. I hope I did I good job summarizing your questions. Thanks but I don't get how to send pics and videos!:-P One question for you Tasfiya, how do you make stickers?!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Wow, this is hard because I don't have a picture to compare to. There are a lot of steps to emailing the picture so I'll tell you after the break.plus, I have two (very unsure) results. White Throated Sparrow or a Northern Mockingbird. Search them up and tell me if I'm right or wrong okay? Oh, and you should ask your brother or mom or dad if they know how to send a picture. Maybe they know, but if not, I fan tell you after the break. :)

Ms. Seitz, how was the museum today? Did you see the butterfly exhibit? Did anybody else go? And, I think Bone is a girl.... because she had a kitten. So, I'm not sure if I should name her Bone anymore. Any suggestions, based on her actions? She likes meat, and likes to climbnour BBQ grill in the backyard. Its her usual resting place. But, I don't want to pet her, because she's a stray and can have rabies. I know somebody who pet a stray cat that had rabies, and the cat was biting his hand, so he had to get shots. Anyways, have any suggestions for a new name for Bone?

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Min if a help with the names? A new name can be Catarina or Canabelle or but from those names I perfer Catrina.

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Tasfiya, it is not a White Throated Sparrow nor is it a Northern Mockingbird, sorry it is much bigger then the Northern Mockingbird. It has black feathers around its neck

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Ms. Seitz, do you know how ear wax attracts birds of paradise? Because, we're writing feature articles in class and I'm doing birds of paradise so it would be helpful if I could pit it in my article. I've been searching this on the internet but I couldn't find HOW it attracted them. You seemed like a very good researcher when I saw your poster on the Endangered Black Rhino, so I thought I'd ask.

Sanjida, anybody can help with the name, because it would be great for me to give Bone a better name. Catrina sounds good, but I want to give her a name based on her actions. I gave her the name Bone before, because I caught her eating a chicken bone that fell out of the garbage can, and she bit the bone a little. So, it was based on her actions. So far, I know she likes chicken, and loves to climb our BBQ grill. So I wanna name her something that has to do with that stuff, but a girl name. Plus, the only other bird I found was the Eurasian Collared Dove. It's about the size of a pigeon, it's white, and has some black around its neck. They are native to Asia and Europe, but were introduced to North America, so I thought I would give it a try. I think this is the one, based on what you told me. Search it up okay, and tell me if I'm right! And I'll tell you how to make a sticker after the break. It's kinda hard to explain, but really easy to make!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Oops, sorry the comment I wrote was accidentally copied twice, Ms. Seitz! P.S. Ms. Seitz, did you know that there is also an African plant called the Bird of Paradise? I recently learned that over the break. It got its name because of its flower, which looks like a vivid bird in flight. The plant is REALLY pretty! :)

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Tasfiya, sorry but it wasn't a Eurasian Collard Dove. I will try to show you after the break. Oh, the name you wanted for the cat, if you wanna base it on her actions, can you list some of her actions down and I might be able to scratch up a name for you.

Sarah Awan said...

Hi Ms.Seitz!I will take a picture of Mudd.I wonder if you can bring a picture of Bone Tasfiya.I will try my best to bring it after vacation.Sorry I gave a late response.Tasfiya you can try to call Bone a name probably on its features. That is what I did for Mudd. The weather is really good today.I am planning to go to Prospect Park. The snow is almost gone.

Ms. Seitz said...

Tasfiya: Don't change Bone's name. I love it! And you named Bone for a really good reason.
Sanjida: I've seen birds in Costco and Home Depot. They get in. A lot of times they are pigeons. Pigeons come in a lot of different colors. Could it have been a Mourning Dove?

Sanjida I Afrose said...

I don't think so ms.seitz but the darkest shade of black is all the way around the neck. How do they get, because the day I went had a 100% chance of rain, and it started rain. In Costco all the windows are close ...usually. So how can the get if the windows are closed?

Sanjida I Afrose said...

Sarah, hi, I got some really good topics for The Weekly S.S Magazine.

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz! Maybe I shouldn't change Bone's name after all. I guess its as good for a girl as it is for a boy. Remember how I told you about Rusty? I think I wanna call him Butch. It just sounds like a good name for a fat cat. :) I haven't seen Butch even once, after the morning I saw him! I really wish to see him. I wonder how he and Bone are doing. Bone's been away ever since the big snow. I hope I see her again when all the snow goes away, and spring comes. I know she can't stay away so long from our BBQ grill. :) Anyways, during the break I've seen a lot of Dark Eyed Juncos and American Tree Sparrows on my block! I think I heard a Black Capped Chickadee too, because the songs matched. Oh yeah, two more things! I finally figured out how to tell what time people write their comments, because the times are always wrong. The minute is right, but the hour is three hours back. So, let's say the comments said 4:35 PM, it would really be 7:35 PM! Oh yeah and last thing, since Bone had a kitten (which is really adorable,) I've needed a name for it. Have any suggestions for the little furball? :) He's black and white like his mother. Again, anybody can help!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Oh my god, a name just popped onto my head. I can name the kitten Asher! What do you think Ms. Seitz?

P.S. Has anybody noticed that this is the post with the longest amount of comments? After this comment I'm writing, it'll be 51 comments!

Sanjida I Afrose said...

I guess, Tasfiya what does he look like? What I mean by headache the featherbrain at Costco, is making me think to much and I'm getting kinda frustarted.

Sanjida I Afrose said...

How about a name like scruff?

Hasib Patwary said...

im sorry i was late but ms.seitz when i searched it up on google it said that these birds can be found in the Southern Ocean and the North Pacific. They are colonial and they nest in most parts of remote oceanic islands. And the different types of albatross are the Great albatross, Wandering Albatross, Antipodean Albatross, Amsterdam Albatross, Tristan Albatross, Northern Royal Albatross, Southern Royal Albatross, North Pacific albatrosses, Waved Albatross, Short-tailed Albatross, Black-footed Albatross, Laysan Albatross, Mollymawks, and Black-browed Albatross. Other types of albatross include Campbell Albatross, Shy Albatross, White-capped Albatross, Chatham Albatross, Salvin's Albatross, Grey-headed Albatross, Atlantic Yellow-nosed Albatross, Indian Yellow-nosed Albatross, Buller's Albatross, Sooty Albatross, Sooty Albatross, and Light-mantled Albatross.

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Woah, that is a lot of albatrosses! I heard the Short Tailed Albatrosses are endangered... Plus, Ms. Seitz, today a saw a bird on my block that I thought was a seagull, but then, it swooped down in the air, and I got to see it closer. Then, I found out it wasn't a seagull! It looked like a dove to me! It was completely white, with no other colors on it. The whole bird is white. It looked SO beautiful, so alluring. Anyways, I'm doing research to find out what it is. I wish I had something to take a picture of it. I also love looking at the Starlings on my block. They're always either sitting on roofs, fences, or tree branches! Since they're so common on my block, I'm gonna try to take pics of them! :)

Sarah Awan said...

Hi Ms.Seitz!I was going back home and I saw a flock of crows pass by.First I was confused.Crows in Brooklyn? Then I searched crows on allaboutbirds.org. The site is really helpful. It said crows were common in New York. Then I wasn't confused.Have you thought about the UNC?If you have please report to me.Have you ever seen crows in Brooklyn?I've seen them only once.Good bye Ms.Seitz!:)

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Since Sanjida has been pleading to be in the UNC, I just remembered something. When will the next Urban Nature Club meeting be? And I think you have to right an essay about why you wanna be the club, right? (Don't mean to get involved) :) Cause I remember Sarah doing that since she gave you a spring application. Ms. Seitz, do you know how to make a nest box, for birds to raise their young in? If you do, could we try to make one in the school garden? Cause the article I read, True Blue, said we could help Eastern Bluebirds by making nest boxes. Because, house sparrows and starlings would take their spots, so they had nowhere to raise their young. So could we try, if we are allowed to? By the way, did the custodian ever find out about your bird feeder, or how it crashed and broke? :)

Hi Ms.Seitz! How r u?I am fine.I am so glad to have asked you about the science project because I was so depressed and confused.(I am almost finished with it):)I do not want to beg and bother you about the UNC. Has the principal said anything about the spring application I gave you?Me and Tasfiya sit across the window and sometimes we can see birds pecking on their feathers. Is that action called preening or something? We can not identify them but Tasfiya said she will bring her binoculars to try to find out.OH!I almost forgot!I saw you just got some fish in the empty fish tank you had.Great! What kind of fish are they?Have you named them?I think that will be a good idea.Do you Ms. Seitz?Maybe we could call one Blubby.Because fish go blubb blubb blubb.See you tomorrow!Adios!:)!

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz! Remember when you were joking in class and asked in what part of Shakespeare's play were the starlings mentioned on? I actually did research! It was in Henry IV Part TWO! :) Plus, have you seen the albatross can lately? Because, ever since Kaloakulua has been on his own, while both parents forage for food, some common non breeders have visited him, and preened his feathers, but he just turned away. Also, I think it was yesterday, or 2 days ago, but two non breeders were having their courtship dance in front of the nest!!!!!! It was so exciting! They kept kinda dancing, preening each others feathers, and really showing affection!!!! It was so cool, and Kaloakulua looked as if paid no attention to it, like he didn't care. And lately, he has been flapping his wings that he is growing, and stretching! The little guy is growing so fast!!!! And he looks so cute when flapping his wings. He's even been out of the nest sometimes, and has been curious about the camera. The FAQ said that would happen as he got older. I can't believe how much the little guy has grown since day one! I'm totally gonna miss him when its time for him to leave the nest. When he stands up straight, he's actually almost the size of his papa!! :)

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Oops, sorry I meant to say PART ONE but said part two by accident.

Hi today we had a writing celebration because we gave our feature article

Tasfiya Kashem said...

Hi, Ms. Seitz! Today we had a funny little moment in class because we were doing test prep, and then, a pigeon was on our classroom windowsill, looking around. Sarah and I saw it first and we got distracted during our work, and started laughing silently. Then, when Ms. Friedman was ready to review the questions, she looked up and her eyes past the window, but then she turned back around to the window, widened her eyes, and started laughing hard. Then, she told us a quick story. When Ms. Friedman worked at her old school, a pigeon flew in her classroom, and made A NEST inside the classroom closet!! It laid eggs and everything, and lived in the closet for a long time!! Soon, the custodian found out and had to remove the nest... :( But, I sorta wished I was there to see the nest!!

Sanjida I Afrose said...

I missed having you all on Friday. But I learned a lot at the teacher professional development I attended at the New York Hall of Science. And don't worry about the burrito comment Sarah. Brothers can be silly....anyway, I love burritos too! The magazine sounds great. Is it from the World Wildlife Fund? You know, endangered species day is on May 3 and I'm thinking we should showcase our projects for the school to see. I just downloaded a bird app to my phone. I'll show you.

There is a day for endangered species????? Cool! I downloaded the World Wildlife Fund app on my tablet. And showcasing our projects sounds awesome! Plus, I wanted to download the Merlin Bird ID app from the Cornell Lab on my tablet, but it will be available on Google devices in Spring 2014. Its on the app store, though. My brother was gonna download it for me on his iPod, but he needs to update the iPod to download it, and he doesn't have the update. The update is only on iPhones so I might download it on my dad's iPhone. Is your bird app Merlin Bird ID Ms. Seitz?
