Hi, Ms. Seitz! After doing ten minutes of research on this bird, I finally got it. I believe it is a Dark Eyed Junco! I went on Google and searched black and white birds and first, I thought it was a Lark Bunting. But, it only had a little white on the feathers, not on its belly like the one in your yard. Then, I thought I was sure that it was the Black Phoebe, but I realized it wasn't, because it had a black beak, not a pink one like the bird in your yard. SO then, I went on allaboutbirds.org, and typed in the search box, "white bellied birds". Then, I clicked on the Dark Eyed Junco, and the picture matched the picture you had! The white belly, the black on the bird, and the pink beak! It was also kinda plump like the one in your picture. So, I am certain it is the Dark Eyed Junco, but if not, I'll do more research! :)
Hi, Ms. Seitz! You should do more of these bird guessing posts! They're really fun! I read Sanjida's comment, and I too got curious about the world's rarest bird. I googled it and several birds came up. Some of the rare birds are the Asian Crested Ibis and the Kakapo. They're both beautiful!! Also, the Madagascar Pochard came up. They are extremely rare diving ducks. They were believed to be extinct in 1991 but, in 2006 some Pochards were found at a lake in Madagascar. They're actually endangered now. There are only 60 Pochard left in the whole world!:( Also, I searched up bird videos on youtube, and this video came up that shows a male and female cardinal feeding their babies in the nest!! It was so cool! The description said that the parents ate the babies "business" which is called a fesal sac (I think that's how you spell it). They do it to keep the nest clean. Here's the link to the video if you want to see it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tWLDhJ6mjQ.
The video's name is called: HD Northern cardinals feeding baby birds 1080. It's really cool to watch this because it's so up close!! :)
Tasfiya: I'm going to check out the video, thanks! And you may want to consider doing your endangered species research and report on the Pochard. Could be interesting. Do you know what is causing their endangerment. Also, guess what, another bird cam is up. It's spying on two red-tailed hawks building their nest up in Ithaca. I'm going to post about it now.

I saw lots of those dark eyed juncos in my yard here in the hudson valley. I automatically knew that was a dark eyed junco. I also see lots of titmice.

OK guys. Well, look at it and try to match it to something in a field guide. Or describe it on Google and do some research.

Hi, ms.seitz! I want to ask you what is the rarest bird on earth, where are they found?
Tasfiya: YOU ARE RIGHT! Congratulations! I like all the research you did too, narrower it down until you got it right.
Sanjida: Why don't you google that question and see what turns up?
